  •  ZR1 at Motor Trends Best Drivers Car Test today at Laguna Seca

I will be going up to Laguna Seca today to attend the start of the Motor Trends Best Drivers Car test. I contacted Jonny Lieberman a few months ago to ask what cars are in it this year. So far they have the Blade Silver Corvette ZR1 with the ZTK package, Guards Red Porsche GT2RS, Arancio Anthaeus Orange Lamborghini Huracan Performante, Orange McLaren 720S Performance, Lime Essence Green New Aston Martin Vantage. So far I haven't seen a Ferrari Pista ! I'll report back.

550 in one week does not surprise considering what you guys have done so far in such short period of time. I just got back from Laguna Seca and they are doing photo shoots and in car videos today. I'll be going back tomorrow for the hot laps.

Lucky you to go back to Laguna Seca, being part of a certain, yet-unamed major media car testing process. And we are not over 700 members!

Too bad Ford GT couldn't make it to the test. They were invited but couldn't show for some odd reason. Hmmmm. Maybe the ZR1 being there was part of it! Or the fact that there were 4 cars there that had 700 or more Horsepower.

Incredible excuse from what I heard and very lame. Too bad because it's still a very fast car and it's American !

I wonder if the ZR1 had the optional CAI on as it's a legit option from the factory to bring it up to 772 hp?

Yes, there is the CAI on for a 17hp bump bringing the total up to 772hp

I just got back from Laguna Seca and here's the latest. They are doing hot laps as we speak right now with the slower cars. They are going to do hot laps with the ZR1, GT2RS, 720S, Performante, and possibly the Vantage first thing tomorrow morning. I will go up there again to finally see the top cars do their thing. All five of these fastest cars have Factory support people here to make sure their cars are dialed in and ready for Randy Pobst. Corvette has three people there. One ZR1 Development Engineer, one mechanic, and one marketing guy. All three are very top people. I talked to them for a hour and got some very interesting feedback. There are two ZR1's there. A low wing and a high wing. They are running the high wing for the fast lap. It has the optional CAI on it. I also got to talk to the Englishmen from McLaren. First time for them at Laguna. I'll report back later.

Skank, you lucky boy to be there at Laguna Seca to not just see and feel the action tomrorow, but today to talk with the GM team and others. The cars that are racing tomorrow are all incredible performers.

And why am I surprised that Ford “could not provide” their GT. $450K yet, not competing.

I also covertly asked about "Future Corvette Reveals" to the Marketing guy. He was tight lipped and just smiled. I tried to extole the virtues of revealing the "Special Future Corvettes" (mid engined C8) to the Pebble Beach Concour D'Elegance and a few other locations during Monterey Classic Car Week since there's more mid engined sports cars displayed there than any other venue on the planet.

I especially like that the +17 HP CAI (on the ZR1) is OEM, installed by your dealer as an option, and thus fully GM warranty covered. While some different HP increases on other versions of the C7, the GM CAI is similarly fully warranty covered if installed by your dealer.

However, I do not know whether the warranty is maintained if one were to buy it from a GM parts counter, or GM parts discounter and/or one installs by on their own.

                  Anyone?

Just got back and observed all four car's Hot Laps. All I can say is I saw some crazy fast cars today. Now depending how they interpret overall ultimate speed vs Best Driver usability is a different question. After all it's obvious these four were going to be the fastest out of the 12 cars here. And two of the four cars are track only cars and the other two are almost daily drivers. The ZR1 is clearly the most practical of the four and can be taken on a trip if desired. I'm sorry I can't give any more info out at this point as I promised to keep my trap shut. The Lightning Lap test is also evidently done and complete so we have two stellar tests to look forward to. Stay tuned.

How fortunate you were Skank to be there and observe all the testing. We are all envious, but so glad you got to experience the entire event.

Thank you for sharing with us what you are allowed to.
