  • Elkart Lake Blue Starts Right Around Now

Thanks to CorvetteBlogger, we have learned that Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic is heading down the BGA Assembly line (or is at least scheduled to start today) In fact a friend, a member of this forum, has his 2019 GS in ELB with a TPW of next Monday.

So why did I choose to post it in the ME section? Because its chances of remaining a 2020 color are, IMO, in the 95%, maybe in the 99% range. GM does not bring out a Corvette color in the middle of a production year, then end it roughly six months later. And secondly, as the color so closely mirrors the beautiful Laguna BLue Tintcoat, which GM caught a lot of flack for by ending it when it was still an extremely popular color, and as ELB has two nice advantages over Laguna Blue, I personally think it is a “sho in” as a 2020 continuation color. The two compounding reasons are that ELB is a metallic color, and secondly, unlike Laguna Blue which was a tintcoat and thus had a $995 upcharge, ELB is a no cost, non tintcoat color.

Elkhart Lake Blue Starts Production Today

If all is going to the schedule set forth by the Corvette Team back in April, today marks the beginning of production for the new Elkhart Lake Blue exterior (RPO GS7) for the 2019 Corvette. The new color has officially replaced Admiral Blue Metallic (RPO GTR) as the only “Blue” color available on the 2019 Corvette’s current 10-color palette.

The new color was one of two new colors announced for the 2019 model year at the NCM Bash. Shadow Gray rolled out earlier this summer and replaced Watkins Glen Gray. Ordering for Elkhart Lake Blue opened on August 30th.

From the examples of Elkhart Lake Blue we saw at the Bash and at Carlisle, the color is very similar to the C7’s Laguna Blue Metallic which appeared from 2014-2016. Chevy’s Build & Price Configurator is also showing the new color.

Those that select Elkhart Lake Blue have four interior choices: Gray, Jet Black, Kalahari and Adrenaline Red. Spice Red would require the D30 Color Override at an additional charge.

Following the team’s penchant for naming these new colors in the C7 era after American race tracks, Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic was named after Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin which is the home of the historic Road America race track. Other C7 “race-track” colors are Long Beach Red, Sebring Orange, Laguna Blue, and Watkins Glen Gray.

By the end of the month we should see the first customer cars delivered and hopefully, we’ll have a couple of comparisons to Admiral Blue as well as Laguna Blue to share.

For those who missed the comparisons of Elkart Lake Blue with Laguna Blue, here are some comparison pictures. Of special interest to me, and I was standing there when lots of pictures were taken, the new ELB fender was lighter in color than LB by a smidge when it was held above the actual LB car, yet darker by that smidge when held below the LB’s fender. Here is an obvious side comparison.

I think ELB will be a popular color. Of course, I may be a little biased towards blue Corvettes.

Were I to buy a new Corvette today, that's probably what I would order. I'm not a fan of Sebring Orange. Makes me think of an Orange Creamsicle.

I'm (hopefully) only 4 - 6 weeks away from my ELBM GS as it left BG for Toledo yesterday! Might be the first ELBM in the Pacific Northwest!

John, sure looks very close to LB. I'll know for sure in 4 to 6 weeks!

BTW, do you know if the GS hood rise is as great as the Z06 or more in line with the Z51/base?

The GS hood is identical to the Stingray’s (same PN even).
Enjoying my Shadow gray C8. What a car it is.
